PeopleHR is an established four-tier suite with mobile, AI, e-signatures, performance and payroll routes. HollyHR is designed for teams of roughly 5 to 100 employees, with Free for up to 10 active employees and one public paid price today.
Choose HollyHR when people records, leave, sickness, documents and onboarding cover the job, and you want a free plan for up to 10 active employees with one public paid price. Choose PeopleHR when native mobile, an AI assistant, learning, e-signatures, expenses, performance, timesheets, automated workflows or HR and payroll bundles are requirements today.
PeopleHR publishes monthly rolling and longer commitment options such as 12 months. Do not infer the contract term from a monthly price. Check the commitment, renewal and notice terms in the order you are actually signing.
Choose by fit
Which one belongs on your shortlist?
Start with the work you need the software to do, then compare the price.
HollyHR fits when
You need a focused HR core for a team of roughly 5 to 100 employees, without buying a four-tier suite.
Free up to 10 active employees or a public £2 price per active employee suits the way you budget.
API and MCP reads from Free, governed writes on Standard and a self-service organisation export matter to you.
PeopleHR fits when
Native mobile, an AI assistant and learning need to be included from the entry tier.
E-signatures, expenses, performance, timesheets or automated workflows are required today.
An established supplier, a broader integration surface or an HR and payroll bundle reduces your buying risk.
Price in practice
A free start versus four per-person tiers.
HollyHR keeps one paid price for its current HR core. PeopleHR starts at £3 per employee per month and adds more capability across Core, Pro and Elite+.

Moving from PeopleHR to HollyHR?
List the PeopleHR tools your team uses before comparing subscriptions. Native mobile, e-signatures, expenses, performance, timesheets, workflows, payroll and connected systems all need an owner if you move to HollyHR.
Request and inspect your PeopleHR export, then test a small HollyHR import. Reconcile leave balances, permissions, documents, custom records and payroll hand-offs before ending the old service.
Straight answers to the questions that usually decide the shortlist.
Is HollyHR cheaper than PeopleHR?
At published entry prices, yes. HollyHR Free is £0 for up to 10 active employees counted for billing. Standard is £2 per active employee counted for billing per month before tax. Billing follows current active employment; profiles mapped as volunteers under the organisation's published engagement policy are excluded. PeopleHR starts at £3 per employee per month for Starter, with Core at £5.50, Pro at £8 and Elite+ at £9.50 before applicable tax and extras. The higher PeopleHR tiers include substantially more software.
Does PeopleHR have a free plan?
PeopleHR publishes a 14-day trial with no credit card required, but not an ongoing free plan. HollyHR Free is ongoing for up to 10 active employees and has no trial clock or card requirement.
Does PeopleHR require a long contract?
PeopleHR's current comparison guidance says customers can choose a monthly rolling contract or longer commitments such as 12 months. That does not prove the terms of every order. Check the commitment, renewal, notice and pricing provisions in the document you are actually asked to sign.
Do HollyHR and PeopleHR include the same features?
No. They overlap on people records, leave, absence and documents. PeopleHR includes native mobile, an AI assistant and Learning Lite on Starter; onboarding, e-signatures and expenses on Core; performance and timesheets on Pro; and automated workflows on Elite+. HollyHR's current product is intentionally narrower, and Plus is not yet available to buy.
Which product has better developer and integration support?
PeopleHR has the broader established surface, including a REST API that can read and maintain data, a sandboxed utility and named integration categories. HollyHR includes API and MCP reads on every plan, governed writes on Standard, and signed events for documented public API-origin changes. Compare the exact records, permissions and event coverage your workflow needs.
Does PeopleHR offer a charity discount?
PeopleHR advertises a discounted rate for charities and non-profits but does not publish the amount. HollyHR publishes a 50% discount on Standard for eligible charities and approved non-profits. This reduces Standard from £2 per active employee counted for billing per month to £1 per active employee counted for billing per month before tax. Billing follows current active employment; profiles mapped as volunteers under the organisation's published engagement policy are excluded. Ask each supplier to confirm eligibility and the final quote.
Can we migrate from PeopleHR to HollyHR?
You can move the records HollyHR supports, but there is no one-click PeopleHR migration. Inspect your PeopleHR export, test a small HollyHR import and reconcile leave balances, permissions, documents and custom records. Mobile workflows, e-signatures, expenses, performance, time, automation, payroll and integration data need a separate retention or replacement plan.
